How NFC Works
One tap. Full proof. Every product carries a unique encrypted chip that verifies authenticity and activates your benefits.
One tap. Full proof.
Every senfind product carries a unique NTAG 424 DNA chip — encrypted, tamper-evident, and the backbone of our anti-counterfeit guarantee. Here’s exactly how it works, in plain language.
Tap to verify
Hold your phone (iOS or Android, NFC enabled) near the tag on your product. You’ll see a senfind verification page — no app download required.
Confirm authenticity
The page shows the product name, batch number, and a cryptographic signature that only senfind can generate. If it matches, your piece is genuine.
Activate your benefits
Register the tag to your email and you’re in: 2-year warranty starts, The Crew membership unlocks, and any member-only perks for that product become available.
Why NTAG 424 DNA specifically
NXP’s NTAG 424 DNA is the only NFC chip that combines three properties we consider non-negotiable for a premium brand: (1) SHA-256 cryptographic authentication — each tag carries a unique serial number signed with a private key held by senfind, making cloning computationally infeasible; (2) CCID secure messaging — the chip can verify that your phone is genuine before revealing data, protecting against relay attacks; and (3) 1 KB of user memory — enough to store product metadata, warranty status, and a pointer to our verification server without needing a constant connection.
Cheaper NFC tags (NTAG213/215/216) can be cloned with a $20 reader-writer. Our tags cannot — not without the private key, which never leaves our HSM (Hardware Security Module).
What the tag does NOT do
- No GPS or location tracking. The chip is passive — it has no battery and only activates when your phone’s NFC field is within ~4 cm. It cannot track you across a room, let alone a city.
- No always-on connection. Data is read in a single tap session (< 2 seconds). There is no background polling, no Bluetooth pairing, no Wi-Fi.
- No behavioural profiling. We record that tag X was verified by account Y at time Z. We do not build a browsing history or purchase propensity model from NFC interactions.
How anti-counterfeit works in practice
A counterfeit seller can copy our packaging, stitching, and hardware. They cannot replicate the cryptographic signature on the NTAG 424 DNA chip without senfind’s private key. When a customer taps a fake product, the verification page will show a mismatch — or no response at all if the counterfeiter used a non-DNA tag.
This means you don’t need to trust the seller, the marketplace, or the price. You tap, you verify, you know. That’s the entire model.
Compatibility
| Device | NFC support |
|---|---|
| iPhone 7 and later (iOS) | Full support via the Wallet app or any browser with NFC web API. No app required. |
| Samsung Galaxy S8+ and later | Full support. Samsung Pay / Google Pay can also read the tag directly. |
| Xiaomi · OPPO · vivo (flagship) | Most models from 2019 onward have NFC. Check your phone’s spec sheet for “NFC” or “Near Field Communication.” |
| iPhone SE (1st/2nd gen) · older Android | No built-in NFC. You can still verify by contacting us with the product serial number printed on the tag’s label. |
If your phone doesn’t have NFC
No problem. Every tag also has a human-readable serial number (format: SF-XXXXXX-YYYY) printed on the label next to the chip. Email that number to verify@senfshop.com and we’ll confirm authenticity within one business day, then activate your warranty and membership manually.
